On the outside, a construction site will all look the same. Towering scaffoldings, unfinished establishments, mountains of sand, scattered tools, and overall chaos. But what most people don’t know about is construction sites actually have types. Yes, we can say that activities are similar but the purpose of the establishment and the goal of it makes all the difference. This creates types of construction sites. But first, let’s have a firm grasp of what exactly is a construction site.
What is the function of a construction site?
It is relatively a place where buildings and establishments are made. Usually, construction sites are full of chaotic activities and raw materials. On the other hand, construction is also known as a process of modification. An establishment or a place will not exist without the process of change and construction. So to say, construction is also considered to play a big role in growing cities in terms of modernization and providing good establishments or modified areas for them to stay at.
Challenges of construction sites.
One of the big challenges of construction is the chosen environment that the project will take place in. That and probably countless more such as machine-related challenges, time constraints, tools, manpower, and other risks that involves construction. Those are only scratching the surface but the ones who can truly tell its challenges are, of course, the men behind the construction itself.
What are the two different types of construction?
There are two main types of construction and this is business and industrial construction. But don’t be mistaken, this is not all the types of construction there is. However, these two types mostly cover most of them. But to brush up on the other construction types, here are five of them…
- Residential
- Institutional / Commercial
- Power Generation
- Waste
- Heavy Construction / Transport
- Special Industrial Construction
- Gas and Oil
Meanwhile, the two main types which are buildings and industrial construction take up these forms of other construction types under their wing. To further explain, building construction usually refers to the making of towering condos, hotels, apartments, and business establishments. On the other hand, industrial construction entails much more complex projects such as windmills, power plants, steel plants, cement plants, aluminum plants, and a lot more.
How do building and industrial construction differ?
Seeing it as a whole, building construction or industrial ones can be seen as an ordinary project from the outside. So how do they differ from each other? They differ in terms of policies and safety regulations. Buildings are built in a more urbanized area (usually) and industrial construction entails a tad bit more complex since these are not our usual hotels or apartments. For further understanding, let’s take a closer look at both.
Building Construction
This is somewhat related to commercial construction since people will frequent these places from time to time and actually live in some of them. A building construction pretty much speaks for itself. These are usually the ones we see when we go to business districts shopping malls or even people who own condominiums are probably aware of this type. But there’s more than meets the eye. To get to know this type better, here are some more examples of them.
Family Homes
These are the houses found in villages, towns, or neighborhoods in the city. Mostly, some houses have multiple designs depending on the owner’s taste. However, the most common designs of residential areas are either a specious one-story house or a two-story house. Some even have spacious gardens or pools together with their homes. Usually, family homes also have 2-3 bedrooms that can cater to a regular-sized family.
Construction-wise, the only thing you’ll probably worry about family homes, in the long run, is their maintenance. Don’t be alarmed, no matter how good your home is, every house will always need maintenance.
Condominiums
These are residential buildings that are often found in the heart of cities. Condominiums elevate the lives of people (literally) by providing compact living spaces. Not only does it entail living spaces but it also has recreational purposes for the people. Usually, condominiums have gyms, pools, co-working spaces, lobbies, and a few more amenities. Some people choose to have a condominium because of its functionality in terms of being close to work or the city.
Townhouses
If houses had twins, they would be known as townhouses. They are more affordable than family homes and condominiums. Although they still require maintenance from time to time, townhouses will provide a very comfortable living space for families or for people living alone. However, one of its disadvantages is it might not have the complete amenities that a condo holds or open space (such as gardens) that a family home has.
Industrial Construction
Industrial construction differs from building construction in a way that it is more complex than most. This type of construction introduces the making of different areas from which the economy can benefit. Unlike building construction, this type will most likely not be occupied for living purposes. Rather, it’s going to be used for people to work in. Industrial construction is big in size and is made for people to work with. It may be built in a secluded place, or a place that is away from urban areas.
Furthermore, unlike commercial buildings, only authorized personnel can enter the premises of industrial ones. It’s not to ban other people, but it is for the sole purpose of keeping people safe. It is common knowledge that not all people are equipped with the knowledge of industrial sites therefore, for their safety, only authorized persons are entitled to enter. Here are some examples of industrial sites.
- Windmills
- Power generation
- Gas and oil construction
- Railroads
- Gas construction
- Oil construction
- Mines
- Factories
And there are a lot more. Living in a growing industry comes hard labor and more industrial places to further generate new infrastructures. This is why industrial construction also takes an important role in the society we live in today.
